Listen to any text out loud with our free Text to Speech tool

Our Text to Speech tool turns written words into spoken audio right inside your browser. Paste an article, an email, your own draft, study notes or a script, choose a voice, and press play — the text is read aloud instantly. There is no sign-up, no software to install and no limit on how much you paste. It solves a simple but common problem: sometimes reading is slow, tiring or just not practical, and hearing the words instead is faster, clearer and easier on the eyes.

It is built for a wide range of people. Writers use it to catch typos and clumsy sentences, because mistakes that the eye skips over are obvious the moment you hear them. Students and language learners use it to check pronunciation and listen to material while doing something else. Busy readers turn long reads into hands-free audio for chores, commutes or workouts. And anyone who finds long blocks of text hard to read — including people with dyslexia or tired eyes — gets a comfortable way to take in the same content. Because the highlighted word follows along as it speaks, you can read and listen at the same time.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste your text into the box.
  2. Pick a voice from the list, and tap Preview to hear a quick sample.
  3. Adjust the speed, pitch and volume sliders to taste.
  4. Press Play to start reading, and use Pause, Resume or Stop whenever you need.

How the voices work

The voice list is not stored on our site — it comes from your own device and browser, which is why the choices differ from one phone or computer to another. The tool groups voices by language and pushes your device language to the top, so the most relevant options appear first. A star (⭐) marks the higher-quality voices: names containing words like Natural, Neural, Google, Premium, Enhanced or Siri usually sound noticeably more lifelike than the basic built-in ones. If you want more or better voices, you can add them in your device settings — on Android under Settings then Text-to-Speech, and on iPhone under Settings, Accessibility, Spoken Content, Voices. New voices appear in the list automatically.

Getting the most natural delivery

Three sliders shape how the speech sounds. Speed (0.5× to 2×) controls how fast the words are read — slow it down for tricky pronunciation or learning, speed it up to skim a long piece. Pitch (0 to 2) raises or lowers the tone of the voice; small changes keep it natural, while extremes sound robotic. Volume simply sets how loud it plays on your device. For the most human result, start with a starred voice at normal pitch and a slightly relaxed speed of around 0.9×. Clean punctuation also helps a lot: full stops, commas and question marks tell the engine where to pause and how to phrase, so well-formatted text always reads more smoothly than one long run-on line.

Your text stays private

Everything happens locally. The tool uses your browser's own built-in speech engine, so your text is spoken on your device and is never uploaded to a server or saved by us. Your last text and chosen voice are kept only in your browser's local storage so they are still there when you come back, and you can clear them any time by clearing the box or your site data. One thing to note: because the audio is generated live rather than rendered into a file, this tool reads aloud but does not export an MP3 — if you need to save the audio, you can screen-record the playback. For the smoothest experience, use an up-to-date Chrome, Edge or Safari browser, which all support the speech features this tool relies on.

FAQ

Is the text to speech free?

Yes, completely free with no sign-up and no limits. It uses your browser's built-in speech engine, so there is nothing to install and nothing to pay for.

Can I download the audio as MP3?

This tool reads the text aloud live in your browser using your device's voices; it does not export an audio file. If you need to save it, you can screen-record the playback while it speaks.

Which voices are available?

The voices shown come from your own device and browser, so the list varies by phone or computer. Most devices include several English voices plus other languages, and the list is grouped by language with your device language first.

What does the star (⭐) next to a voice mean?

The star marks the higher-quality voices — those with names like Natural, Neural, Google, Premium, Enhanced or Siri. They usually sound far more lifelike than the basic built-in voices, so they are a good place to start.

How do I add more voices?

Add them in your device settings. On Android go to Settings then Text-to-Speech; on iPhone go to Settings, Accessibility, Spoken Content, Voices. Any voices you install will show up in the list here automatically.

Is there a limit on how much text I can read?

No fixed limit. Long text is split into smaller chunks automatically so it plays smoothly, and the current word is highlighted as it reads so you can follow along even with large passages.
